The Fondazione Zancan aims to fulfil the Statute´s objectives. The first of all is to carry out scientific research which directly or indirectly affects in a positive way human services, promoting their technical and ethical qualification and their humanization.
The fields of research are currently those enlisted by Law Decree nr. 229/99 (art. 3, comma 4): children; elderly people; disabled people; mental health and drug abuse; alcohol and drugs; Hiv infection pathologies and terminal pathologies; disability and following chronic-degenerative pathologies.

A further list of reference is the one included in Law nr. 328/00 (art. 22, commas 2 and 4), and in the Regional Laws linked to that, which regards the definition of the essential levels of social and health care:

actions to fight poverty and supporting income;
financial actions to help independent living and home stay for totally dependent people or people unable to conduct everyday life actions;
support actions for children in need, through the support to the original family and placement in family, people and residential care sites of a family kind;
actions to support family responsibilities, in order to reach a better functioning of working time and family care;
actions to support women in need;
interventions for the complete integration of disabled people, according to Law nr. 104/92;
interventions to help elderly people and disabled people to stay at home, or for their placement by families, people and residential care sites of a family kind;
social and educational integrated services to fight drug, alcohol and drug abuses through prevention interventions, to recover and take one?s place in society again;
information and counselling to people and families in order to help them benefit from the services and to promote self-help initiatives.

Information and materials on the researches carried out by the Fondazione and on social policies in Italy and other countries, can be found at the Fondazione Zancan´s Documentation Centre on social policies, located in Padova, in via Vescovado, nr. 66. The Foundation hosts other three centres: the Centre for the analysis of social policies for the protection of vulnerable people; the Centre of studies for the promotion of health; the International Research Centre on outcome evaluation.
